What is the real amount of danger in the lead paint on the toy situation? Facts Please, not ignorant opinion?
Why is there so much coverage about the lead paint story?
Lead was used as an additive widely until, what?, the mid 70′s then it met with a decline. millions of homes have lead paint in them and have for over a hundred years. and yet we don’t have a nation of idiots (GWB excluded).
now, I know that young children are at particular danger for lead poisoning because everything they can touch usually goes in their mouth. And after biting it paint chips enter their system, etc.
But what if your child is past that stage? Is the danger then more theoretical than real? If I have a GI Joe painted with Lead paint in my closet and I never plan on any midnight snacking what is the danger then?
Isn’t this whole ruckus more of a way to inflate media share during a “slow” news season than true concern for people? all I hear all day is what seems like uninformed opinion. does any body have any facts?
The problem is with the fact that this is toys that are painted with paint with lead content.
Since many parents buy toys above the childs age level you have very young children with these painted toys in their mouths. Lead can enter the blood stream in other than just ingestion. But as that is a minor (extremely minor), it is safe to say that of the concern is just for the small children eating the toys.
Remember that lead is an accumulative poison rather than a fast one. Therefore if a child has several toys that they eat than the gathering is of great concern. It also takes a long time to reduce the level in the blood system which allows for the lead to damage of time.
