Is it true that the skeleton of "Lucy" was refuted as an evolutionary link between chimpanzees and humans?
The skeleton "Lucy" was discovered in Ethiopia in 1974 by Donald Johanson. Has been considered one of the "missing links" between humans and chimpanzees, however I recently heard that it was refuted by some parts of the skeleton were actually parts of other animals, (the skull may have been really an orangutan, and example) I want to know whether or not Lucy is still "real" and any other source ** ** you can help me understand this.
Who told you that is clearly trying to discredit evolution and that is not at all true. First, not found the skull of Lucy. Secondly, orangutans never lived in Africa it could not be found and confused. Third, the bones are unique enough that there is nothing to be confused with. His knee valgus by example, is not found in non-humans on the line. I teach biological anthropology and have a spear of Australopithecus and other animals, and would be almost impossible confused. Fourth, there are more than just skeletons Afarensis Lucy. There are about 300 known individuals with no fewer than 100 of Hadar alone. Any reputable website or an anthropology book will tell you this
