Enjoy a space shuttle launching from Cape Canaveral

Cape Canaveral Sunday, March 15, 2009 – As a Florida local, I had the opportunity my whole life to see the space shuttle was launched from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. However, nothing was like this when wonderful spring day at the beach at Cape Canaveral. The sun was hot, cold water, the people were active, and the food was cooked and served. All up and down the Space Coast in Florida people were out and about, enjoying their days until they could see the launch of Space Shuttle Discovery night at 7:43 PM. Their mission? For takeoff and the head of the International Space Station, carrying with them the last couple of US-built Solar Wings and the last segment of the space-truss backbone main station for the STS-119 mission. Around the initial launch pad, the cities of Merritt Island, Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach were extended to companies and activities.

Everywhere I went, people had found their way to see the launch from. In Merritt Island, people were parked all along the Causeway Merritt Island, enjoying the Indian River and watching the wind surfers stroll around. Places like Applebee's Tiki Bar, also located on Merritt Island, allowed for cold drinks and hot food to be consumed while sitting in and around the Tiki bar or outside of it is covered, both with a clear view of the river and again to the launch pad itself. In Cocoa Beach, Cocoa Beach Pier always crowded little room had just as many locals and tourists who knew it was one of the best locations for "Days of launch." Too much for you? Well, it was for me, so some of my friends headed south from the pier to a restaurant called coconuts on the beach and enjoyed some drinks and some food. Heading north back to my hometown of Cape Canaveral, are some of the closest places land that can legally get to see the launch. Most of these places are located in Port Canaveral, a place of fun and excitement all the time. Now if you plan to visit the port or one of its restaurants, be sure to call ahead to get a reservation, or may not get a spot! But if you really want to enjoy good food and enjoy the view of the launch pad, I'd recommend Grills, Lips of reef fish and Milliken. Everyone has a style restaurant food and service with two different environments to choose from: Fine Dining at home and the party / outside relaxed style.

However, if you are not eating or drinking in a restaurant, then they can simply pay homage to Mother Nature and enjoy one the most beautiful creations, like me: the Beach! Bring your own food and drink and camp with the rest of us, basking in the sun and watching the waves. From the beaches of Cape Canaveral, you can look north and see Port Canaveral and Delta Two rocket launch pads, and back south to see the Cocoa Beach Pier. With only a few houses or apartments to shield you from the blast of sound, the beaches of Cape Canaveral allow the ultimate viewing, hearing and relaxing experience Space Shuttle and Rocket Launches Two Delta.
