Film Review: Transformers (2007)

First, I'm not a fan of director Michael Bay and the second … I'm not a fan of Michael Bay. His films are exorcises no sense of human endurance that are easily forgotten right after they have been seen. The few parts of his films but can never replace the other two hours I have to endure to get to the party (can you say about Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys II). That said, Transformers mega budget is not all bad, just not all that is good. The saving grace of the film comes as Shia LeBeouf (hot off the heels of this year's surprise hit Disturbia).

LeBeouf plays Sam Witwicky, a young man who in the tradition of teen movies, is trying to do everything possible to win a new car from his father that includes addressing to personal items from his famous grandfather on EBay. Little is know one item of their grandfather is the key to the location of a secret weapon that carries a race of robots as the war in hiding – The Decepticons, who want nothing more than to use the weapon to destroy the benevolent Autobots, who want to save humanity from destruction eminent. When Sam finally gets his car not long before he discovers his more than it seems when he becomes the mysterious Bumblebee who just wants your help to stop the Decepticons to revive the long hibernation Megatron (who crashed on Earth in early years).

With the help of a cast that includes Megan Fox, Jon Voight, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel, Bernie Mac and Anthony Anderson, the Autobots have an army to help, but it be enough to defeat the Decepticons?

Transformers suffers from the same as all the plagues of the director of "Bay of the epic" Cinema is the lack of a story coherent actually involves all the characters in the misuse of "humor" that removes the film rather than it helps. It is very obvious that character is called LeBeouf to be the protagonist of the film, but all the sub stories with the rest of the characters seem tacked on just for effect and never seem to go anywhere, especially in the third act, when many of the actors to be a showcase, and nothing but a plot that has all the human characters are the second stage of the onslaught of carnage verses Autobot Decepticon. Only LeBeouf and character of a measure of Fox exist in any substantial screen time and / or character development. This lack of any tie together in a consistently is the same as Pearl Harbor and plagued the Bay of Armageddon. Also, the film spends too much time several times in small roles in the film places meant to be funny or humorous, but actually out as excuses in frivolity.

There is an exceptional moment in the film, as usual with a film Bay, and the CGI and action sequences are some of the best offered in a summer hit all year and at a fraction of the cost of summer movies like Pirates 3 (about $ 300 million) and Spider-Man 3 (about $ 250 million), Transformers (which only costs about $ 150 million) has some of the best moments I've seen all summer.

The biggest problem I have with a Bay film is that it never seems like it always get better as a director. Although each of his films seem to be in a bigger paddle, never seems like it's progressing as a filmmaker, but remaining stuck in place which means that with its next film can be sure of a hell of a ride that does not mean much visual and all that will soon be forgotten after the first views.
