Interview with Nick Pope, World Famous UFO Expert on 8/21/07
Nick Pope famous ufo investigator: Mr. Nick Pope worked for the Ministry of Defence the UK was in charge of UFO investigations for three years. He is the author of several UFO books and has appeared in several documentaries and television programs.
Ken: Webmaster About Data Net Internet Magazine.
————————————————– ————————————————– ————————
Ken:
First of all I want to thank you for the interview, I really appreciate it and I thought that maybe, because I have a mixed audience, not all UFO enthusiasts, I thought you'd like enter their duties in the position it held in the Ministry of Defence in the UK and we may talk about books you've written?
Nick Pope
Of course, Well, all that is left to the British Ministry of Defense last year after a 21-year career. The way in which one is connected to a post there is what they do is say, moving around every two or three years in different positions. In my many years there, I have a set of tasks there, all of them interesting. Those who suppose I'm best known for is from 1991 to 1994. I worked in a division where my duties include investigation and research in UFO mystery. Although it was not in the formal term of reference, you can not run a project ufo without finding yourself on the receiving end of anything, so by default I stopped at two strange and wonderful things. So I have prepared for other things like alien abductions and crop circles, ghosts and visualization distance, so that is my background.
Ken:
OK so now let us know maybe some of the books he has written?
Nick Pope
I have written two nonfiction books, one called "Open Skies, Closed Minds," which was an overview of the UFO phenomenon, the book I focus on my own Official investigations and research, and also wrote the "Uninvited." And the only point was that each focused on alien abductions. I also decided to speculate in reality, I suppose, to combine something I learned about UFOs, to broader issues of crisis management in an environment of government. I decided to write two science fiction novels, based on the alien invasion, called Operation Thunder Child and Operation Lightning Strike and those who were speculative novels actually had a little fun with the content but the main thing is that claimed to be a higher being or life forms.
Ken:
Well I imagine it must be very frustrating for you when some people think that you have all the answers to questions UFO and do not want to enter the answers you give. It meet more frustrating?
Nick Pope
Well, yes, I think hit the nail on the head there. I think some people have accused me of being part of the cover up myself. I have been represented, at least in the UK, where a kind of real man in black type character. Yes you are right there some people who think they know all about the UFO phenomenon, who want a quick answer and want a solution and I think I know where is the smoking gun and hearing the response, no doubt, as far as I know in the United Kingdom, although the British government and the Air Force in recent years has researched thousands and thousands of cases, I am sure we will get into that in a while, some have been tracked on radar, seen by some pilots that I have no answer, do not know what it represents the UFO phenomenon. Most are a case of mistaken identity of course, but do not know what 5% is unknown. The possibility remains of those things that really aliens and a declaration that can be viewed at the website of the Ministry of Defence, but we have no evidence pointing to be aliens and UFOs that have no ordeal. No spacecraft on hangers in the United Kingdom.
Ken:
The outreach project has been getting some press in recent years and I saw his name mentioned in some of the items on the site. Correct me if I'm wrong, you spoke as a witness, right?
Nick Pope
Yes because I had written books on the subject. By the way I should clarify that I am in no sense a whistle blower. My book and indeed all of my main activities have been credited with the Ministry of Defence. Like any previous government or military or intelligence official to write books and I am sure the situation in the United States and indeed worldwide is that anybody who really wants to write a book and wanted to draw in his official to write a book after they left, the book has to pass by a very detailed enforcement procedure to ensure that not inadvertently disclose any classified information. I, of course, because I take my oath of secrecy very seriously, I followed, of course, that a la carte. This traitor should in no way be called a blower or simply whistle, talk or spilling the beans type of thing. Yes in fact, very well, answer the question. This information is public about UFOs, which is in my book. I have no objection to my name added to a list witnesses. There were a number of other people on that list that I know, like Lord Hill-Norton's former chief of defense staff, here at the Ministry of Defense and more from above and his name was there too, so I felt that if I can help get my name on the list, someone who could check back through a trail documents and it was determined that I am who told me that I was, I felt it would do something good and put my name on the list.
Ken:
Do you think that are likely to succeed in their mission to get all declassified UFO documents and access to alien technology, if technology really alien exist?
Nick Pope
No se. I just can, of course, speak with authority and knowledge of the UK, I do not know what information may or may not still continue to exist in the U.S. has not been released or declassified, so the honest answer is I do not know. All the best, perhaps There is irrefutable evidence, but as I said before, if there is a smoking gun, of course, is not in the UK Its not one that I have been informed.
Ken:
When testified before the Disclosure Project has told you, and I hope that I quote it correctly, "And if, as governments always say that when politicians probe on this issue, or when the media inquire, that there is really nothing to worry about, okay, let's see all the data. "Does this that you think the UFO important data is kept in reserve by the public?
Nick Pope
No, I mean … that quote is accurate, but I mean by that quote is perhaps something slightly different from the way it was interpreted. What was really talking about is freedom of information. I was talking on the line end of the introduction of the British Freedom of Information Act, which many readers do not realize really does not enter into force until 2005, where I know maybe directed to the Americans. Er But I was thinking about the information that I knew I was about to be released. I was very encouraged by my colleagues, so to speak, to embrace the Freedom of Information Act, to embrace the concept of open government, they have and at least acknowledge that there may be a high degree of interest in information UFO and indeed my prediction proved correct. The Ministry of Defence receives more Freedom of Information Act claims relating to UFOs than any other issue, including the war in Iraq. So my appointment was really anticipating the huge interest and, in fact, the Defense Ministry had revealed hundreds and hundreds of pages of documents some of which were classified in levels of Secret Eyes In the UK, some of which were quite interesting. None of this when information was obtained through an extraterrestrial presence. I mean there really is a kind of something going on. The evidence suggests something quite tangible as sightings UFO and not all misidentifications, hoaxes or delusions, but do not know what they are.
Ken:
It is an interesting fact that you just to give me that there are more visits than in Iraq, I did not know me.
Nick Pope
Yes, it's just great interest, many of them from media, some of the UFO community and individuals who just want to use the Freedom of Information Act to read about it and maybe check details own observations and view any investigation may or may not have occurred. But there is an absolutely phenomenal amount of requests on the subject that come along the year and is curiously, it has been decided in recent months, doing what they did the governments of France earlier this year and say instead of this approach piecemeal, just fill in the cracks, this reactive approach, only to pronounce on a case by case, do what the French did, post the entire file and is currently under consideration.
Ken:
I was not going to ask this question, but since we came to this subject, I saw a note published on the Internet. Supposedly, the name is written, but seems to come from someone who is very high in the Ministry of Defence and is part of putting data on the Internet and what kind of suggests that one of the reasons which wants to put all data on the internet is that if you do not put everything in, they can tell people that the way of its entry, you know what I mean?
Nick Pope:
Yes I've seen that document. It is a very difficult issue. I do not think the person who was writing that he intended to do anything underhand. All person would say is that under the Freedom of Information Act this information is about to be released, you can actually respond to a request and say that it is that file now. Instead of responding to your individual request, if you can wait a couple of weeks, the whole batch will be posted online. It is much easier to obtain of the Internet that the National Archives and the National Archives has to visit. It is very difficult for someone not in touch. You know that once your on the Internet, almost anyone with Internet access can find. The person was not trying to do anything under the table you just say this is what the law says you can do. We had find a way, given the volume of requests, to make it a bit more manageable. Frankly, my former colleagues there is absolutely drowning in a sea of Freedom of Information Act requests.
Ken:
I can imagine.
Nick Pope
They are honestly not trying to be difficult about it, but simply someone cut them some slack.
Ken:
Old UFO appears to be a topic of interest to many people. Does the Ministry of Defence never found evidence of UFOs or ancient objects, which could indicate that UFOs might have landed on Earth some time in our past, or that some ancient race may have existed on Earth might have been able to space travel?
Nick Pope
No, I have never seen any research on this issue. Very terms reference that were operating under very focused on the current situation. In other words, to investigate UFO reports, and came to see if there was evidence of a threat or evidence of a security threat, so to speak. I could do research, but historical research is frowned on, there was been outside the frame of reference. Frankly I was two or three hundred UFO reports each year, which had to be my priority.
Ken:
I suppose you too busy?
Nick Pope
Yes, absolutely. I am aware, of course, literature of all kinds of people, Von Daniken, Velikovsky and many many others, Graham Hancock. Its a very interesting, but not something that I have studied and not an area that the interests of the Ministry of Defence as far as I know.
Ken:
I would like to ask a personal question that has to do with the question you just asked. There are ancient rock paintings and statues that some have interpreted as represent men in space suits. There are also bones of giant people have been found in tombs in different locations, do you think that our ancestors could have met people from other planets, or that we may have come from other planets and settled on Earth?
Nick Pope
I'll give the answer honest again, I do not know. I have seen some of these paintings and at first sight no doubt a very interesting, but I also know that skeptics say I really do not understand the psychology of our ancestors. Some of these images can be visual, it could be allegorical. They could represent someone with a helmet space, but also could be a demon representing archetypal of a dream or a nightmare.
Ken:
What UFO Celebrity occurred during his watch and made them much more interesting to you that some of the other UFO sightings?
Nick Pope
Most significant case in my term of service was something generically called Cosford Incident. You can go to the website of the Ministry of Defence and which, incidentally, fair, MOD.uk and if set to Cosford this is one of the files to the Ministry of Defence has already published and runs over 100 pages of documentation, it is well worth is worth looking at. This was the case during a period of about six hours we had a number of different UFO sightings from 30 to March 31, 1993. We have had sightings UFO a number of different areas of the UK, seen by witnesses that included much of the military and police officers. The description varied, with reports the large triangular shaped craft were quite well represented in case files. The most interesting thing was that UFOs flew two Air Force bases. Cosford the was then called a base near Shawbury and seen by a patrol of police officers from the Air Force base in the first and last time by a weather official as an unidentified flying object in the second base. Its size was halfway between a transport C-130 Hercules and a Boeing 747. While it is evident near the base, there was a low frequency hum from the ship that inspired U.S. military fighters on the ground and very slowly, probably accelerated away very quickly. There was a witness who had been in the Air Force eight years and saw a military aircraft, helicopters on a daily basis. So clearly, as the witnesses that are quite interesting. We have implemented a very detailed investigation, one of the first things we did was check the radar tapes. There were some compelling reading, but nothing than he could hang his hat on. Some of my colleagues in the Air Force, which sent me, he said, so it can be only ground clutter. It sometimes happens with some radar systems at the base. Nothing to say about that and even my head very skeptical of the division, when he wrote in this case two or three weeks later, summarizing this investigation, wrote to the deputy head of the Air Force, a commander of two stars and said briefly, in short in short, there seems to be some evidence that an object or objects flying over the UK. Now that is about as close as you never get to say on the subject, yes, there is something here and real, of course, none of which means an alien. Its certainly a case that changed many people's minds, both civilian employees and military colleagues who were briefed on it.
Ken:
As we know, a lot of different satellites have the ability to look down and also the Space Shuttle has the ability to make Pictures will look down and looking into space and the United States has taken some photos of some unknown objects. Did you ever play with another project with the Ministry Defence where sightings were taken by satellites, UFOs?
Nick Pope
No I have not been involved in anything like that, having said that, I did, an organization that I was working with an air base called Fylingdales as part of the ballistic missile early warning system. Fylingdales, of course, had a network of space tracking radars and were part of a monitoring system around 8000 objects in space like satellites and a spanner fell into an astronaut and when I was doing my UFO investigations the agency had two employees in Fylingdales. That is just one area that can not go into great detail.
Ken:
I understand
Nick Pope
Having said that, I'll tell a story that only anecdotal might find interesting. I had to test the ability we had with one of my colleagues and I said yes because we sometimes see strange things here. Like things that travel at speeds of 15,000 or 20,000 thousand miles per hour, or something. We call all balls of fire.
Ken:
"I can leave for a second and ask a quick question?
Nick Pope
Sure.
Ken:
Have they ever seen something that they thought might have hit the speed of light than the speed of light?
Nick Pope
No. They were talking about speeds of 15,000 to 20,000 kilometers per hour. They said yes, we are called fireballs. Well I said sorry, but how know they are balls of fire? They said, because they go very fast. So it was kind of Catch 22. Much of the government UFO research is, can be quite frustrating. You really do not get all the answers, because every time you answer a question, get one.
Ken:
Do you have access to any document UFO, such as European registers or records of the United States?
Nick Pope
In terms of reference were limited to the UK, however on occasion we used to get reports from other places, in fact could not investigate because it had no jurisdiction. But what I did at one time was a bit of link, in particular, with the Belgians. There was a very famous wave of sightings over Belgium in 1989 and 1990. Immediately, when I researched Cosford, immediately recognized the parallels with what happened in Belgium. Not the least was the staff say that I link the main Belgian sightings of 30 March 31, 1990 and the incident itself was Cosford March 31, 1993. See that in itself is interesting as the fact that this large triangular shaped craft are able to maneuver at a rate of speed quiet. So that I contacted the air added to our British embassy in Brussels and told him that a call was made two pilots of the Belgian Air Force and had scrambled tried to intercept the UFOs, and called on Major General de Brower, the Belgian officer that after these incidents gave a press conference in this. If it was big news.
Ken:
I think this was televised.
Nick Pope
Yes, and no doubt would have confirmed to me by the embassy. Yes, everything you read about this and was on TV. Please note that the Belgian Air Force, the Belgian government, the pilot, and the general staff and air defense Belgian Air defense headquarters, everyone believes that the ship was a real solid object, and there was no anecdotal and humorous story about the end of this comic. It was also thank God that they were friendly, because if they had been, in reality could not have done much about it.
Ken:
That's for sure.
I know you have discussed this many times, but I'm under the impression that we consider the Rendlesam Forest UFO case as one of the most important. Is that correct?
Nick Pope
Yes, indeed. Although it occurred in the 1980s before he joined the Ministry of Defence. Soon I receive questions about that. Members of parliament were asking questions about it, asking for her military, people wondered about UFO. So of course, one of the first things I did when I took up my position on the UFO project was to pull up the file. At first, of course, I was very concerned because there was a report a UFO landed. We have had numerous United States Air Force witnesses. We had radiation readings taken at the landing site. We had an intelligence personnel defense experts who testified that the radiation readings had been "significantly higher than background" and again there is another file, another file found on the website of the Ministry of Defence for people to see. Once I got beyond my interest, I worry a little each time I do not like to criticize my former colleagues, is only a matter of fairness and professional courtesy, but I have to say the investigation, the original investigation was not handled, I to say, the way he would have handled.
Ken:
Many people feel that way, yes ..
Nick Pope
A number of fundamental things I think that we should have done, not done. The most logical that it should have done was not done, was immediately cordon off the landing site, the guards put into it and protect it from decontamination. Another thing I did was not taking soil samples and control samples immediately outside the landing zone. Such Once the worst of it is that actually there were two parallel investigations. The U.S. Air Force were busy interviewing witnesses and taking statements and details of the vessel, sketches and detailed descriptions, right up to the hieroglyphs on the side. The Defence Ministry was busy sending the readings of radiation, obtaining intelligence information on the craft, getting an assessment tape radar, but no one person in charge. One person not only ensured that all this information was shared, so there was a strange situation in the Ministry of Defence knew of the radiation readings were significantly higher than the background, but that fact did not the United States Air Force. The U.S. Air Force could not approve the statements of witnesses before the Ministry of Defence For example, sketches of the boat with the marks on the side, so it's just for starters, I could probably write a much more detailed criticism probably go on for pages. These are some of the errors.
Ken:
Well let me ask this then, Gordon was a General Edward Williams Division, I think. He was involved in this, with the UFO Brentwaters Woodbridge and said, recently, actually talking to a foreigner.
Nick Pope
Well, I'm not sure I've said that. I saw that reported on the internet, but I would be surprised if it was a quote from first hand. I mean, I have sat down together with a civilian UFO researcher Georgina Bruni, who wrote a book about it. We sat down and had dinner with General a couple of years ago and certainly made no claim. I would be very surprised, I'm not sure what the source of which is, I have the feeling that its a second or third hand quote.
Ken:
Yes you are probably right, I do not know the source either, I just happened to see it.
Nick Pope
I do not think he made the appointment, I do not think saw the UFO, not to mention the aliens. So going back to research on a critical issue, a UFO research should be similar in some way a police investigation with some of the things you do. In other words, you need a plan of investigation, interview witnesses, to identify, retrieve and consider the evidence. These two aspects, so to speak, are common in police investigations and UFO investigations. One of the things that can go wrong at any research is the delay and the delay was a critical factor, I fear, in Rendlesham Forest Research. In part because there was a critical period and many of the staff were in license key. I think they reveal the existence of differences, so to speak, by virtue of the fact that should not have been standard operating procedure, so everyone should have known what his actions should have been. However, I think, everyone ran around saying oh my God, what we do we have never had anything like this before?
Ken:
Do you think that is because nobody takes a very serious UFO research?
Nick Pope
I think it's a big part of it. I strongly agree for the nature of the word UFO. Some people roll their eyes and start humming the X-Files, all kinds of jokes potential and I suppose that's why they never Air Force pilots, who have seen UFOs were reported, probably for fear of ridicule. In his view, the chain of command could ask his opinion and psychological state, such is life. Yes I think it was maybe the critical factor in what went wrong in the investigation of Rendlesham. Thought, UFOs, what do? In fact that was one of the reasons, when it was filling the post, we tried to ban the use of the word UFO, at least in our internal discussions. We have tried replacing it with an unidentified Ariel UAP phenomenon. We felt we were trying to rebrand the entire phenomenon of a more scientific way, as it should to the critical nature of UFOs and I think his audience he attributed to a political forum or government or military.
Ken:
Have you heard of a UFO crash in the British Empire?
Nick Pope
I've seen, say, all kinds of second-hand reports and thirdly, but certainly I do not is a first-hand. I think what is a potential crash site several researchers invariably turn out to be a plane crash, a ball of fire, or In fact, only one story high. So, yes I have heard many stories, but in reality only in the UFO literature, in any case MOD files.
Ken:
I do not know if you can answer the next question or not? Project Blue Book had about four employees. How many people worked in the UFO project in the Ministry of Defense and what were your duties?
Nick Pope
Well was in fact just me and an administrative service officer in a supporting role. A Having said that, of course you have to understand, do not tell the whole story of what he could do, or who were not full-time on the project, but every time we wanted, could pull in. So were the, so to speak, in the center of the web, but we could take, for example, Air Force officials to confiscate tapes radar, and then collected and analyzed, obtaining qualified personnel, special equipment and supervise personnel and equipment. Make sure that we had the personnel and equipment special to drill through the formalities to obtain the Fylingdales radar tapes, so when you look in the Blue Book and look at us, sounds like a very small amount. I hope and believe that a punch above our weight.
Ken:
I think you did.
Have you ever encountered a UFO case that was not be UFO cases, only a few people who pursue a program?
Nick Pope
You mean the one out and out deception?
Ken:
Good a joke or something where they were using to make a name for themselves.
Nick Pope
No, not in an official capacity. I've met all sorts of jokes, jokes, things like that. A number of videos and stuff. I'm not talking about anything official, do not go on file sharing sites like Youtube and things, which is almost every day. They are what I suspect, some viral marketing campaign or a designer to show his talent and with a bit of fun with a scam. I think it's something always has been. Already in the 1950s, people were trying to fool the Ministry of Defence, literally cut and paste forms and saucer to take a picture window. So always followed. Its just that the technology for what is becoming more sophisticated, but I do not think so hoaxing has always been a part of the problem, but it is a tiny Part of the problem. Again without going into details of the installation base than if we had all kinds of specialists, equipment, and indeed the staff to analyze these things that could easily spot a fake.
Ken:
Right.
Well the only question I have to ask. I only ask because there are so many rumors on the Internet. Have you ever seen documents indicating that the Nazis succeeded in building a flying saucer and could have been copied by the forces victorious and that what we are seeing today is the modern version of it?
Nick Pope
No, I think one of the points about disc-shaped craft is which are very unstable and this would be a very, very difficult to fly. Now I do not argue, is a proven fact that there were aircraft designers were thinking about these things, I do not think and I see no evidence to suggest that the Nazis never achieved anything remotely resembling a working prototype, let alone an operational craft and lets face him, this was total war, if the Nazis had something of an art as well, which would have used. I do not think that thought or ideas of one of these ships was far the drawing board.
Ken:
The United States had at least one incident in which several missiles were shut down and prevented from returning to launch state List, while a UFO hovering over the silos. An example of this occurred at Malmstrom AFB, Montana in 1967. This would seem to be a threat to defenses the world. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the British government has said in the past that UFOs pose no threat. Does the British government never investigated the incident and if so, what conclusion have come to if you know?
Nick Pope
No se. I am familiar with the case of literature. I'm not sure if Americans never shared any information about it with the British government. I do not, to be honest, whether the British government asked the Americans for a report about it. So, yes, sorry, do not know.
Ken:
Well that's the answer.
There seems to be a wave of sightings by pilots of lines carriers. One was reported on the Channel Islands in April [2007] and said to be about a mile wide. How can something of this size, which is seen by a professional driver, or in this case, two pilots on two different levels, be refuted or ignored by the government or think they're investigating the sightings a secret?
Nick Pope
Well, I'm familiar with that case. I think what might have been called a UFO might have been two UFOs rather than a mile long. I have not heard officially. I think I remember an interview with the pilot in question. His name is Ray Bowyer in which he said also that it was only an estimate of something far away, I could have made. So this is really not something of value. That said, maybe being a mile wide seems to be of great interest, in the short term, the MoD has researched and there is a case file, a very small time and again is in the direction of the MOD. If you search the term UFO, Channel Islands find it. I think it is a half-dozen pages. Well once again I do not like to criticize, but it is not the most detailed research in the world and nobody seems to know for sure what kind of radar that was in the airport security, I would have thought would have been the first question they asked. If something that is new or in fact the civil aviation authorities may know something, I do not know. Maybe the pressure from journalists and Parliament and the community UFO can cause the Ministry of Defence to explore a bit. There is a small file case on him and now, in fact Ray Bowyer, the pilot, and from one of the other sources the aviation community here does not seem to be an indication that they are working on tracking radar and does not seem to be a corroboration of the results. So things say a lot.
Ken:
Very good.
It is said that only one in seven sightings have been reported. When it comes to airline pilots, are reports that, probably much less, because they are afraid of losing their jobs. Airline Pilots could only be in the best position to see UFOs and could have a far greater number of observations. Do you agree with this statement and if not, why?
Nick Pope
If I do it I agree with her and that is true of both military pilots and civilian airline pilots, many of whom have told me, off the record, of UFO sightings and many of the which I have said that they did not write a report because they feared for their jobs or fear ridicule from their colleagues or because they knew they did not cause much difficulty. It is extremely unfortunate. Technically, the information is not optional, it is mandatory, especially if the object is close enough to present a potential hazard. Through training, all pilots have to do that and I think it is encouraging that there have been several more over the years, but I think there is still work to do in selling this message to the aviation community. It is not something to be ashamed, frankly should be in training. Its makes it very interesting, a couple of years ago the Ministry of Defense released a discussion about UFOs were highly classified and one of the recommendations concerned the safety of flight, which is a separate issue of what are UFOs, flight safety which has the theme and of course, I am aware of a number of cases where there has been a near collision between aircraft and UFOs.
Ken:
Do any of the reports he received on UFO topics not always seem to be related to a legitimate UFO sighting? For example did you ever get a report of the paranormal and it turned out was actually a UFO sighting they were talking about?
Nick Pope
No, I have, I think I mentioned earlier, I did get reports such as alien abductions, crop circles and ghosts. All sightings tended to be quite compartmentalized. I am always wary of bad science in explaining a sighting by another. I mean literally, I would get a report of a security guard saying that they were on patrol night and saw a shadow walk through a wall for example. I think it's a ghost report. I do not have much to do with it, not try to explain one mystery with another.
Ken:
Giorgio Bonguivanni met with the Russian army after seeking permission from former President Gorbverchov to do so. The Russians responded to questions regarding UFOs. The Russian general who was interviewed said he believed he had more powers than humans and they were expecting something from us and that information is held in reserve by Russia and the U.S. about UFOs. What is your opinion on his statement and does it for you as a surprise that was so sincere?
Nick Pope
Good again I know that there are many states that are doing the rounds that are false
Ken:
"I can stop this?
Nick Pope
Yes.
Ken:
This was on a dvd. The entire meeting was videotaped.
Nick Pope
So this was the first hand in general?
Ken:
Unless the DVD is a fraud.
Nick Pope
Ok, well, the best, not for legal reasons to go that route. Yes, of course, have to see the comments in context.
Ken:
Well you are familiar with Mr. Giorgio Bonguivanni is a. …
Nick Pope
I do believe that I met him, he is a stigma.
Ken:
Exactly.
Nick Pope
Yes I met him in London a few years ago. So yes, I'm familiar with it. In fact, may have seen the dvd or question very similar to it. I've seen all sorts of former Soviet military to talk about UFOs. What I'm always hearing, is dubbing someone. I do not know Russian, so I do not know if everything is taken in the literal sense, or the comments are just about belief. For example Lord Hill-Norton, I mentioned earlier, was in the public record repeatedly saying that he believed there was a coverup. He did not know, it was his belief.
Ken:
Well that's what General also stated his belief that he was saying.
Nick Pope
Whether the belief comes from the knowledge or the first evidence of the hand, I do not know.
Ken:
I guess you know Bob Lazar?
Nick Pope
Yes
Ken:
Do you think actually worked at Area 51 and believe that he actually saw a flying saucer?
Nick Pope
Once again I have to use do not know. My only knowledge of this is through the UFO literature therefore I am better at my job rating than I used to.
Ken:
Ok, I have a more interesting question. A famous sighting occurred in Canada Shag Harbor on October 4, 1967, where a UFO allegedly crashed in the water and a second wine rescuing. There were all sorts of stories about American and Canadian vessels and divers and pursue the craft and aliens, even. Do you think there is some this true and if not, what might have been the objects appeared to be able to navigate in flight and underwater?
Nick Pope
Well once again I'm familiar with that case, but I regret having to maintain …..
Ken:
I am only asking for a personal opinion.
Nick Pope
Once again, I really do not know. There is a case that I studied in the Ministry of Defence. Once again I really do not know about anyone else. I read the article odd magazine. There's an old saying used by intelligence analysts throughout the world. The phrase is interesting if true.
Ken:
That's a good one.
Nick Pope
In cases like this is hard to say. You know if I was interviewing you and asked for a response to each case in Britain, Canada and America I think it would be very suspicious. No expert I know, I know everything.
Ken:
I was not really asking for expert opinion on this, I just wanted know how you felt about it.
Nick Pope
I'll have to resort to, interesting if true.
Ken:
Ok.
I see where is the Ministry of Defence has released 29 sightings and they all seem to have more of Lincolnshire, in Britain, covering several years. Is there any reason you know that all sightings would be in the same area, such as experimental military craft being tested in that area? Did you ever notice that most UFO reports came from a place, rather than the other?
Nick Pope
I think what happened there is that what you might have is a report local newspaper. What happened in recent months, the Ministry of Defense released summary sheets of all UFO sightings reported to the department from 1998 to 2006, but what happened is that all the local media have realized this, he found it on the website of the Ministry of Defence, so they have run stories, but only about UFO sightings in your area, so you have a lot of people saying they found 20 UFO sightings in Lincolnshire in recent years. What they are not going to say is that if you look at the summary sheets as a whole, that each year more than a hundred reports coming from different places. I think we have here is just reporting things in their own area. That said, there are occasional hot spots and I asked one of my staff to return to through files to try to make a map of the periphery and try to identify geographically sightings. Curiously, what you have, uh, what we have is basically a map of population density. That essentially just shows that if there is a UFO sighting more than 50 people probably see it, probably not. UFO Hot Spots actually turn out to be the big cities, London, Manchester and Liverpool in Britain.
Ken:
We are always under the impression that if there were hot spots would appear to be nuclear power plants, etc.
Nick Pope
Well there is something there, what is called a cluster of interesting ways, is quite controversial. Military bases for example, had a lot of UFO events, Randlesham Forest, Woodbridge, the Cosford incident but in fact there are several dozens of reports UFO in the country belonging to the military bases. If that means that UFOs are interested in these sites or if it's just that these sites are where witnesses are observers trained and are aware of UFOs or more likely are more likely to get investigated.
Ken:
Have you ever investigate any kidnapping reports?
Nick Pope
Yes, having said that, I think the word investigation may be difficult to describe it. It's what we might call in terms of reference, in depth, maybe a dozen or so. While in the short way of doing something outside our frame of reference, such as calling people and making a hypothetical regression, which is very controversial and that sort of thing. It is questionable, I think, morally. Now what I tried to do was give them the pros and cons of the regression and that the civilian UFO researchers suggest. So I did get the report, I'm not sure I can put my hand on my heart and say that I have investigated the same way to investigate a UFO sighting.
Ken:
At this time I talked to for an hour. I would like to ask more questions but I will not abuse you. Are you right?
Nick Pope
I'm happy to move forward a little bit.
Ken:
"I can change my tape?
Nick Pope
Clear yes.
Ken:
Thank you. Ok, I'm back in business.
Nick Pope
Ok, I do not know how many more questions you ready?
Ken:
I will not go through all the questions. I did a 54 questions, he did not know how long it would take each question and think we can do about 24 questions in an hour.
Nick Pope
Well, we have 24, I will not volunteer to go all the way to 55. That probably will take care of the rest night.
Ken:
Of course, I would not do that. I'll jump a lot of questions here.
Nick Pope
Yes, I'm happy do another 15 minutes or so and answer any important questions you may want to cover.
Ken:
Ok. I want to ask about Gary McKinnon, is Are you familiar with it?
Nick Pope
It is I who will be a very quick response, however, because court proceedings are ongoing. I will not argue that I have fear.
Ken:
That's ok, I'll jump.
The next question is just a personal opinion. Are you familiar with the fact that scientists have claimed that 95% of our DNA is foreign and what do you think of that?
Nick Pope
I'm not familiar with that and I imagine my question would be, scientists have said that? No, I'm not familiar with the claim at all. When they say exotic, do not underestimate how could be saying that? No, I'm not very familiar with that statement and I would be very surprised if it is a claim of any current ….
Ken:
What is the Genome Project.
Nick Pope
Well ….
Ken:
It is from scientists working in the Genome Project. Actually came out and said that.
Nick Pope
Alien, I mean ….
Ken:
As in not from the Earth.
Nick Pope
Ah, good now …..
Ken:
Unlike foreign
Nick Pope
Perhaps there is the purchase of the Panspermia theory that organic materials have come to Earth from elsewhere. It is not a field I know. I'm still in a very casual, not a scientist.
Ken:
How about this, you are very familiar with remote viewing. Have you heard of a remote viewer gathering what he thought was inside a UFO?
Nick Pope
I have heard about that, but again it was literature. I must say that the MoD had a sort of project to investigate the possibility of viewing distance, long after the U.S. has launched its project that was Stargate MoD came too late for this particular phase. It was 2001 before the Ministry of Defense began to work in the study of remote viewing to see if someone can demonstrate remote viewing. Of course not participated in it and discovered years later on this. It was a very interesting project, but if I ever became an operational project, I do not know. I've seen the books of some of the Americans who made David Morehouse a series of demands, but I saw none of that in any British project. Certainly the British study is something that is again in the website of the Ministry Defense. Go to MOD.uk and type of remote viewing and see what we British have been doing.
Ken:
Disinformation is the topic of conversation among many people today. You've probably come across it yourself. Without naming any names, do you think there is some UFO organizations are there only to make the disinformation?
Nick Pope
No. I think there are a number of individual organizations are that kind of information UFO that is simply wrong. But in my experience, especially in Britain, I see no evidence that the government or MOD ufo organizations used to put out disinformation. In a sense, you do not do a thing. The UFO community is its own worst enemy. I think there is much noise as it were and so little background sometimes. Governments do not have to use misinformation.
Ken:
I want to ask you about the UFO that was on the Chicago O'Hare airport. Have you ever talked to anyone about that?
Nick Pope
No, not me. It was published only a week or two ago. I have seen the report NARCAP. by Ted Roe
Ken:
Yes, that's where they say I was a danger to air traffic.
Nick Pope
Yes I have to be totally honest with you, because cutting the length of the report, I have not read in its entirety yet, but I think that is what I have seen, is a splendid work by NARCAP. I think this is a huge, really something that should be an investigation adequate scientific and can not be UFOs flying in controlled airspace. The Federal Aviation Agency or others should look at this very seriously. Interestingly, there have been thousands of reports by pilots and controllers and others in aviation, for what they are doing their job.
Ken:
What do you think of all sightings in Mexico? Thousands and thousands of people have seen. I do not go into the record, I think that you are familiar with them. They never seem to make the newspapers, at least in the United States, why do you think?
Nick Pope
I think some of them are probably helium balloons floating in the wind, to be honest. I'm not saying that there are more interesting in that country. It's not something I've been following very closely, but I'm going next month, when it is, in almost three weeks, I will DC for the conference X. I think, from memory, Jamie Maussan ….
Ken:
I was going to ask if he knew Jamie Maussan?
Nick Pope
I think is one of the other speakers there and it is possible that after the conference X, I think Jamie will be there and I can reach him that question.
Ken:
Many communications are said to be recorded to show that astronauts have been followed by UFOs and who said they saw UFOs. Have you ever received any document indicating that this is true and you do not believe this has happened?
Nick Pope
Well, I think it's a matter of public interest that people like Gordon Cooper and Edgar Mitchell, and people like that comments made on UFOs, some of which refer to them being seen, some of which relate to their beliefs, dating back the question of which statement comes from first hand knowledge and what is the belief statement. I think someone sent me one of the many videos that is about in this case, the other day. There are all sorts of things floating in space. When they catch the sunlight, perhaps they can look bigger than they are and literally, within UFO definition, because the astronauts do not know what they are, they are UFOs. Of course, now in real conference from NASA, the NASA people will say that they are probably ice crystals, perhaps outside the spacecraft or lint or other highly informal, material from the shuttle bay or the like. I'm not one of believe that NASA is part of a UFO cover up. NASA UFOs love to be, which probably would quadruple its budget during the night. So yes, there are things strange that the astronauts have seen, but I think that is a difficult time because he got into a UFO documentary and make the people who are not qualified to really know what they are seeing. I'm talking about further contact.
Ken:
This is what I wanted to ask. Have you ever heard of UFOs that were visible through binoculars, that is, with the help eye could not see with the naked eye and were not at a distance that prevents them from being seen with the naked eye?
Nick Pope
No, I have not seen anything like that.
Ken:
Well I have, that is why we went to ask the question.
Nick Pope
I can not say I have. Maybe there are one or two cases where MOD files. I have not looked at all cases the right from beginning to end. Nothing must be ruled out in Britain
Ken:
Well what kind of ties with people who have had the photos, just take a photo of the sky, see nothing there, and yet he looked the picture they saw a UFO photo.
Nick Pope
I am certainly familiar with many many cases where that has happened. I think in many cases have been investigated most likely was that the camera itself. Not rule out something in the photo.
Ken:
Finally this is your chance to discuss anything you want.
Nick Pope
Well ok … I em, I guess my allegiencey to the UFO phenomenon raised important questions of defense. I have no knowledge that is irrefutable evidence and I'm not aware of anything that might fall into that category. Definitely points the way to UFOs, but there is nothing in the way of proof I can show to anyone. I that in fact as a closing statement, I would say that I think there are several natural phenomena that I know this is probably a very unpopular statement UFO researcher. If there is life out there and I'm pretty sure it is, I suspect that our test will jump through the UFO community. Probably will come to through radio astronomy. And I think it's particularly interesting that what has happened, eh what happens in regard to things like the Square Kilometer under which is the next generation of large space telescope.
Ken:
We call it the great variety, is the same thing.
Nick Pope
You has the Very Large Array, which is already operational which I think is in use. My understanding is that the Square Kilometer Array is or will be … the construction is not yet begun.
Ken:
Oh!
Nick Pope
This is the next generation. Will be built, with whom he had four sites, the last time I saw that there were two final sites, you are in Australia I think, the other is in South Africa. It will not be operational until 2020, but when in use, sensitivity and the power will be several orders of what we have now. Of course I realize that they believe there are other civilizations out there, at least a hundred years light here. That distance one containing several thousand stars. Any signal from should be detected. I have high hopes and I think those hopes are going to manifest in SETI and radio astronomy unit. I think they are, but that's just what I feel at this time.
Ken:
The interview is officially over and just wanted to say that I liked.
Nick Pope
I also liked.
